I’m shopping for car and homeowner’s insurance. Some agencies quote much higher than others on the auto, then a lowball price on the homeowners. Others do just the opposite (high homeowner’s and low on the auto). However, when I add both the quoted auto and home premiums together, there is less than $100 difference between the highest and lowest totals. I thought of buying the least expensive policy, but from two different agencies, but I’m told that to get the best deal, I have to "bundle" the coverage. For example, Agency A quotes $750 on auto and $980 on home (total = $1730). Agency B quotes $820 on auto and $860 on home (total = $1680). But if I opted to buy only the auto from Agency A, it would cost $940 and if I wanted just home from Agency B, it would cost $1080 totaling $2020. I’m confused. Are they just playing games with numbers? What is the most reasonable choice?
they can be due to:
1) different coverage, different benefits or different sum assured.
2) different excess, some are more expensive with lower excess and some are cheaper but with higher excess.
3) different risk. some co are more specialise in specific risk like auto. then they may not be as competitive in home insurance. or even some are better with sports/luxury car and some better with normal sedans. remember, the risk is based on how big is the pooled resource for them to spread it so if a co has a lot of clients in auto insurance, they can afford a lower premium as their risk is lower. thus, it is important to compare quotes. however, while price is important, on’t forget points 1 and 2 as well.
4) different cost. every co has different costing system but this should not be a major factor.
in your case, they are giving you a package discount if you buy both policies from them. the packaged price for both companies are not much difference, i suggest you compare in details the excess and coverage. read the definitions and exclusions carefully.

You can get classic car insurance at any age, but here is the catch,
You MUST have a regular car insured on a regular policy to get specific classic car insurance.
You may not use a classic car to drive to work etc.
I have had classic cars since i was a kid and currently have 3 insured through "silver wheels"
and a separate policy with a regular insurance company.
And yes classic car insurance is cheaper than regular insurance, but the classic car usually has to be appraised every 3 years to keep your coverage.
I have 800 saved and I don’t have any credit. I live in atlanta, so jobs are VERY spread out. I need a car but I don’t want to get in an excessive amount of debt. At MAX I can probably make about 1600 a month, but if I were to get a car note I know I would have to pay MINIMUM 200 a month plus about 150 for full coverage insurance. After rent, gas, and other expenses I only have maybe 100 in savings. I DON’T want to live pay check to pay check, but I need a car to get to work. Does anyone have any ideas… opinions… ever been here before… I only want to buy a car that is 3000 or less. I am a very simple person. I don’t like to spend outside of my means, so please don’t say a ton of rude garbage. I’m being very serious here!
You sound like a very,very Intelligent young lady. I wish that I had the answer for you. The good thing about Atlanta there is a lot of public transportation. It sounds like you don’t have a job yet, so that is your first step. I’ve always said that if I can get a job I’ll figure out a way to get back and forth, and I have been there. Get the job, ride Marta, coworkers, etc. and all you really need is about another $800-$1000 to get a fairly decent car to help you get started. Good luck, I know you can make it happen.
